The Romanian public broadcasting system consists of two major institutions: the Romanian Television Society and the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society, both owned by the Romanian state. The Romanian Television Society operates seven national channels in Romania (TVR 1, TVR 2, TVR 3, TVR INFO, TVR CULTURAL, TVR FOLCLOR, TVR SPORT) and two international channels (TVR International and TVR MOLDOVA), while maintaining five territorial studios across Romania in Cluj, Craiova, Iași, Timișoara and Târgu-Mureș. The Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society manages several national and regional radio stations, including Radio România Actualități, Radio România Cultural, Radio România Muzical, Radio România International, and Radio Antena Satelor, along with local studios in major Romanian cities and the RADOR news agency.

In the Republic of Moldova, both institutions maintain a significant presence. The Romanian Television Society operates TVR Moldova as a direct subsidiary, while the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society runs Radio Chișinău through a more complex structure. Radio Chișinău operates through Pajura Albă LLC, which is owned by Pajura Albă Media Joint Stock Company. This company, in turn, is owned by the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Society (99%) and the Romanian Culture and Book Center NGO (1%). Pajura Albă LLC was established on April 4, 2008, initially receiving a broadcasting license for Radio 10, before being rebranded and launched as Radio Chișinău on December 1, 2011.

The governance structure of Romania's public broadcasting system is strictly regulated. Both institutions operate under the Romanian Parliament's control. The Television Society's Board of Administration consists of 13 members, appointed by majority vote of deputies and senators, with its President-Director General being appointed for a 4-year term. Since 2017, the main source of funding for these public broadcasters has been state budget allocation, supplemented by advertising revenue.
