Moldova's Digital Media Landscape 2024

Dozens of news websites operate in Moldova, with most based in the capital city of Chisinau. However, several online newsrooms headquartered in Balti, Cahul, and Comrat have also gained national readership and influence.

Since February 2012, online audience measurement in Moldova has been conducted by the Bureau of Audit of Circulations and Internet (BATI) and Gemius Research Agency. The study includes Moldova's most popular websites, which are accessed daily by 84% of internet users aged 15 and above. According to audience data provided by BATI and Gemius, displayed on trafic.md, the most visited news sites in September 2024 were noi.md, stiri.md, point.md, newsmaker.md, unimedia.info, tv8.md, esp.md, protv.md, zdg.md, diez.md, and agora.md.

Other popular websites that do not participate in the BATI/Gemius study include jurnal.md, realitatea.md, and md.kp.media. Additionally, sites such as nokta.md, gagauzinfo.md, and gagauznews.md have significant influence on Moldova's Gagauz Autonomy.

According to the latest Public Opinion Barometer conducted in August 2023, 76.3% of respondents reported using the Internet daily, while 6.2% use it several times per week. For 53.6% of respondents, the Internet is the most important source of information, surpassing television (30.1%). Moreover, 38.5% of respondents trust the Internet as their most reliable information source, with television ranking second at 20.3%.
