TVR Moldova is a subsidiary of the Romanian Television Society (SRTV). The television channel has defined its purpose as "promoting Romanian culture and language, traditions of national spirituality, and customs that make up our nation's identity. At the same time, through programs produced in Romania, Moldova, and acquired from foreign partners, the channel aims to consistently and actively support the Republic of Moldova's integration into the European Union," as stated in the channel's description on its official website.

TVR Moldova is a general channel that broadcasts its own productions as well as programs produced by SRTV channels. The most important local shows are: Telematinal (morning entertainment show), Punctul pe azi (political debate show), Telejurnal (the day's most important news program). TVR Moldova broadcasts news programs, sports, current affairs programs, Romanian and foreign feature films, Romanian theater plays, documentaries, shows about events involving Romanians from communities outside Romania and Moldova, entertainment productions, music and folklore shows, live or recorded transmissions from national and international festivals.

TVR Moldova began broadcasting on December 1, 2013, following the conclusion of an amicable settlement agreement for the application filed with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) by the Romanian Television Society against the Republic of Moldova.

Romanian Television had been present in Moldova's media market since the proclamation of independence in 1991 through its channel, TVR1, which could be watched throughout Moldova.

In 2007, when the Communist Party was in power in Moldova, TVR1 lost its broadcasting license. Previous agreements regarding the financing of SRTV programs had expired, and the parties began negotiating new agreements. During negotiations, despite the broadcasting license still being valid, the Government of Moldova, through the Audiovisual Coordinating Council, decided to assign the network used by TVR1 to another company, TLF M International. The broadcasting of TVR1 programs was suspended in Moldova.

SRTV challenged this decision in court, but all courts, including the Supreme Court of Justice, ruled in favor of the Audiovisual Coordinating Council. Consequently, SRTV appealed to the ECHR in 2008.

During this time, TVR1 could only broadcast through cable and satellite networks in Moldova. From 2009, TVR1 began broadcasting again on the second national network in Moldova, covering 97% of the territory.

On September 16, 2013, the ECHR received an amicable settlement agreement between SRTV and the Government of Moldova, then led by Iurie Leancă.

The government unconditionally acknowledged that SRTV's rights had been violated and assured that it would provide a broadcasting license in Moldova. Thus, on December 1, Romania's National Day, TVR Moldova was launched.

In 2019, TVR Moldova was included in the "must carry" list, requiring cable distributors in Moldova to retransmit it in their packages. In 2020, TVR Moldova returned to the national frequency that had been withdrawn from TVR1 in 2007 by the communist government.

In January 2024, TVR Moldova moved to a new headquarters in a building owned by Editura Litera.

This is the publishing house where SRTV's President Director General, Dan Cristian Turturică, published his 2023 volume "Romanians Deported to the Ice of Siberia. Testimonies."

At the inauguration event of the new headquarters, the founder and director of Editura Litera, Anatol Vidrașcu, handed over a symbolic key to TVR Moldova's management. Dan Cristian Turturică also attended the ceremony.

The most important shows on TVR Moldova are: Telematinal, Punctul pe azi, Obiectiv Comun, Telejurnal (news bulletin with daily news). The channel periodically organizes "TVR Moldova Meetings," where cultural figures from Romania meet with the public in Chișinău.

FounderRomania

Romanian Radio and Television was formed following the emergence of Romanian Television in 1956, which merged with Radio Romania, which had existed since 1928. Both were then the only television and radio stations, respectively, controlled by socialist Romania. The structure was led by a committee appointed by the Council of Ministers. After the Romanian revolution of December 1989, Romanian Radio and Television evolved rapidly. Antena Bucurestilor began broadcasting, becoming Radio Bucharest from 1998, then the Information and Synthesis Center was established, later becoming the RADOR Press Agency. In 1992, Antena Satelor began broadcasting, the only exclusive rural radio station in Europe. In 1993, the Romanian Broadcasting Society obtained its broadcasting license from CNA, and in the same year, Radio Romania became a full member of the EBU, European Broadcasting Union. From June 1994, according to Law No. 41, Romanian Radio and Television split into the Romanian Broadcasting Society and Romanian Television Society, which became autonomous public services of national interest and editorial independence.
