Nata Albot
Nata Albot is a journalist, blogger, civic activist, former television producer, media manager, communicator, copywriter, entrepreneur, and event organiser. She began her journalism career at age 16, working at Pro TV and working as director of Pro FM Moldova. In 2008-2009, she directed the Academy and presented the daily agenda at Fabrica de Staruri. In the same year, she started writing on her personal blog, nataalbot.md, and produced "American Adventure" for TV7.
In 2010, Nata Albot joined Jurnal TV, becoming the network's general producer a year later. During this period, she produced "Deșteptarea" and later co-hosted "Ministerul adevărului" and "Sare și piper," entertainment shows focusing on current events. In 2013, she left television and moved to Canada with her new husband and former Jurnal TV colleague, Andrei Bolocan. Since 2017, together with Bolocan, she has hosted and produced "Internetu' Grăiește," initially broadcast on Facebook and YouTube, and from 2019 on TV8, analysing current events in Moldova and its diaspora.
Albot has organised numerous events and festivals. In 2010, she founded the NGO Klumea, through which she organised festivals including "Christmas Tree Ball," "Mai Dulce," "IaMania," "Hodina," and "Lavender Fest." Since November 2013, she has served as director of Koolture Tricolore in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, organising various events for the Moldovan diaspora. Through these events and festivals, Nata Albot actively promotes local culture, supports local producers, and showcases Moldovan folk traditions, originality, and authenticity of crafts. In 2017, she partnered to open an online store selling local producers' products, which closed in 2023 due to sustainability issues.
Nata Albot has authored two cookbooks. She also ventures into rural tourism. After purchasing an old house in Pohrebea village in 2019, she decided to renovate it into a guesthouse, creating "Doi hulubași." The business received €10,000 in European funding for energy installations.
In 2023, Albot returned to Moldova, launching a new YouTube podcast "Mulțumesc pentru întrebare," interviewing notable personalities from Moldova and beyond, including Maia Sandu, Mircea Geoană, Dumitru Alaiba, Cătălin Lungu, Andrei Bolocan, Marcel Lazăr, Alex Buretz, Alexandru Comerzan, and Andrei Porubin. Albot provides online promotion through her social networks and consulting for small businesses.
She vocally promotes democratic values, maintains pro-European views, and supports the PAS party and President Maia Sandu. She has organised diaspora events encouraging voter participation in the European integration referendum and publicly opposed Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. She has spoken against Vladimir Plahotniuc, Ilan Șor, Igor Dodon, Veaceslav Platon, Aleksandr Stoianoglo, and Renato Usatîi, while advocating for feminist, egalitarian, and non-discriminatory principles.
Nata Albot has been involved in several controversies. In 2021, she entered the parliamentary election campaign on the PAS list but withdrew following a scandal initiated by Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, leader of the PACE party and former deputy chief of the General Police Inspectorate (2014-2019), who publicised information about a 2017 incident at Chișinău International Airport involving 0.78 grams of Cannabis.
In 2021, she and Andrei Bolocan became embroiled in a conflict with Chișinău mayor Ion Ceban. Following an episode of "Internetu' Grăiește" where they satirised Ceban and his wife's official income, Ceban threatened Bolocan and revealed that Albot's organisation "KLumea" had received 60,000 MDL from the Chișinău mayor's office for promoting the Online Education Digital Library.
Previously, Albot maintained a friendship with journalist and 2024 presidential candidate Natalia Morari. After the scandal revealing Morari's relationship with fugitive Veaceslav Platon, Albot condemned the journalist's lack of professional ethics. During the electoral campaign, Albot criticised Morari, emphasising her representation of Platon's interests, with whom she has a child.
Another controversy arose in 2020 when, during an episode of Internetu' Grăiește, Albot and Bolocan allegedly mocked Elena Pahomova's post, published photos of her children, and called for public action. Pahomova filed a complaint with the Audiovisual Council, resulting in two fines of 10,000 MDL and 5,000 MDL for TV8. The television station subsequently challenged these decisions in court, while Pahomova filed a separate lawsuit against TV8.
